Menomonie, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's tennis team opened Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) competition with a 9-0 victory over UW-Stout Sunday afternoon at South Tennis Courts. The Eagles improve to 2-0 overall while the Blue Devils drop to 2-1. UW-Stout was also playing its WIAC opener.
UWL swept the three doubles matches to start the dual. Kimberly Steinert/Kellie Hierl beat Lauren Couves/Annie Sandry at No. 1 (8-1) while Tasha Bailey/Kaitlyn Kalinka defeated Mariah Kent/Anna Kent at No. 2 (8-4). Hannah Riegle/Morgan Graf topped Ellie Becker/Kylie Rennie at No. 3 (8-0).
In singles play, Steinert beat Couves at No. 1 (6-0, 6-0) while Bailey topped Sandry at No. 2 (6-4, 6-3), and Hierl defeated Ellie Becker at No. 3 (6-1, 6-0).
Riegle bested Mariah Kent at No. 4 singles (6-0, 6-1), Graf beat Anna Kent at No. 5 singles (6-1, 6-1) and Susi Hu defeated Krystin Hanson at No. 6 (6-0, 6-1). Â
UWL returns to action Saturday, September 18 hosting UW-Whitewater at 10 a.m. at Green Island Tennis Park.
