Season-High Shooting Leads to Road Win at 16th-Ranked Trine

Box Score Angola, Ind. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team, ranked 13th on D3hoops.com, earned a 68-61 win at 16th-ranked Trine University (Ind.) Saturday afternoon at MTI Center. The Eagles improve to 8-2 on the season while the Thunder drops to 5-3 in the first-ever meeting between the two teams. 

UWL never trailed Saturday, scoring the first six points of the game. Trine (Ind.) cut the lead to 12-8 with 13:00 remaining, but UWL went on a 7-0 run to take a 19-8 lead with 10:30 left on a Craig Steele layup. The Thunder cut it 19-9 when the Eagles scored the next seven points for a 26-9 advantage with 7:45 remaining. Seth Anderson had four points in the run while Ethan Anderson hit a three-pointer.

Trine (Ind.) could get no closer than 15 points the rest of the half as UWL took a 40-19 halftime lead. 

Connor Jones' jumper cut the deficit to 40-25, but Will Fuhrmann's three-point field goal and Seth Anderson's layup made it 45-25 with 16:32 left. The Eagles took their largest lead at 53-30 with 12:02 remaining on Henry Noone's three-pointer. UWL led, 56-37, when Trine (Ind.) went on a 10-0 run to cut it to 56-47 with 6:01 left on Jones' layup. The Thunder made it 58-49 with 5:28 remaining, but Ethan Anderson's three-point basket gave the Eagles a 61-49 lead with 5:14 left. Trine (Ind.) could get no closer than six points the rest of the game.

UWL shot a season-high 58.7% (27-of-46) from the field Saturday, including 53.3% (eight-of-15) from three-point range. The Eagles shot 42.9% (six-of-14) at the free throw line.

Cook led UWL with a game-high 20 points, going eight-of-12 from the field, including two-of-two from three-point range. He was two-of-four at the line. Cook also led UWL with seven rebounds and five assists. Seth Anderson and Ethan Anderson each scored 12 points while Noone finished with nine and Fuhrmann eight. 

Trine (Ind.) shot 43.6% (24-of-55) from the field, including 23.1% (three-of-13) from three-point range, and 62.5% (10-of-16) at the line. Nick Bowman led the Thunder with 17 points while Aiden Warzecha finished with 16 and Mitchell Geller 11. Jones had nine points and game-high eight rebounds. 

UWL returns to action Wednesday, December 15 at Saint Mary's University (Minn.) at 7 p.m.
