La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team opened its 2021-22 home schedule with a 232.0-63.0 loss to UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon in the Richard L. Pein Natatorium. It was the Eagles' first home meet since February 1, 2020, a span of 664 days.
UWL's
Will Quackenbush recorded a pair of second-place finishes Saturday, including the 100 (48.69) and 200 (1:46.05) freestyle.
Blake Nelson was second (21.89) in the 50 freestyle with
Andrew Perrin second in the 1,000 freestyle (10:30.74) and
Ben Hendel second in the 200 butterfly (2:04.86). Nelson was also sixth in the 100 freestyle (49.99) with Perrin fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:10.58) and Hendel sixth in the 100 butterfly (56.03).
Connor Cleveland placed third in the 50 freestyle (22.43) and fourth in the 100 freestyle (49.37) with
Zach Vinson third in the 100 backstroke (55.84) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (56.02).
Brevin Kruse was third in the 200 backstroke (2:02.04) and fourth in the 100 backstroke (55.90).
The Eagles'
Jacob Brehmer was fourth (4:43.14) and
Owen Montheard fifth (4:59.44) in the 400 I.M. on Saturday while
Jackson Mishuk finished fifth (2:12.25) and
Andrew Groth sixth (2:17.01) in the 200 butterfly.
Gavin Vink placed fifth in the 200 backstroke (2:07.44),
Connor Baar fifth in the 1,000 freestyle (11:33.35) and
Mickey Keating sixth in the 200 freestyle (1:54.79).
Evan Zimdars placed third in the one (211.95 points) and three-meter (178.20) diving competition with
Tony McNiff fourth in the one (192.35) and three-meter (165.75).
The Eagles' finished third in the 400 medley and 400 freestyle relays on Saturday. Vinson, Brehmer, Hendel and Cleveland placed third (3:43.32) in the 400 medley relay while Quackenbush,
Alex Starr, Nelson and Cleveland finished third in the 400 freestyle relay (3:19.42).
