Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team earned a 163-111 dual victory at UW-Whitewater Saturday.
Ming Ong and
Will Quackenbush each captured a pair of individual events for the Eagles as Ong took the 100 butterfly (54.62) and 200 backstroke (2:00.11) and Quackenbush the 200 I.M. (2:05.32) and 1,000 freestyle (10:39.69). Ong was also third in the 200 I.M. (2:05.54) while Quackenbush finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:04.53).
The Eagles'
Zach Vinson,
Blake Nelson,
Ben Hendel,
Tony McNiff and
Evan Zimdars also won titles on Saturday. Vinson took the 100 backstroke (56.74), Nelson won the 50 freestyle (23.47) and Hendel the 200 butterfly (2:06.46). McNiff and Zimdars swept the diving competition with McNiff winning the one-meter title (279.67 points) and Zimdars the three-meter (214.80). McNiff's score was a zone qualifying mark for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Central Diving Regional. Hendel was also second in the 1,000 freestyle (10:58.16) and third in the 200 backstroke (2:07.51).
Second-place finishers included
Connor Cleveland in the 200 freestyle (1:52.61) and 200 I.M. (2:05.50),
Jacob Brehmer in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.63),
Brevin Kruse in the 200 backstroke (2:05.28) and
Jackson Mishuk in the 100 butterfly (56.71). Cleveland was also third in the 100 freestyle (51.55).
Blake Harre placed third in the 100 (1:08.00) and 200 (2:29.66) breaststroke while
Andrew Perrin finished third in the 200 (1:52.79) and 500 (5:09.25) freestyle.
Jackson Plautz was third in the 50 freestyle (24.02) and Sebiyam Werdin-Kennicot third in the 200 butterfly (2:16.94).
UWL's 400 medley relay of Kruse,
Will Jager, Brehmer and Starr placed second (3:46.74) while the 400 freestyle relay of
Mickey Keating,
Ben Stelter, Perrin and Quackenbush was also second (3:26.70).
