Women's Swimming & Diving Opens Season with Dual Win at Luther

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team opened its 2021-22 season with a 226-74 dual win at Luther College (Iowa) Friday night. 

UWL won 12 individual events and both relays on Friday night as it opened the year under head coach Steve Mohs

Autumn Seebach won three individual events, including the 200 freestyle (2:03.05), 100 backstroke (59.96) and 200 I.M. (2:18.69). The Eagles' Maddy Albert-Nelson won the 50 backstroke (28.24) and 50 butterfly (27.60) while Alexis Hoeben took the 50 freestyle (25.44), Aubrey Lonergran the 100 freestyle (55.61), Claire Vandenhouten the 1,000 freestyle (11:28.87), Lauren Steien the 50 breaststroke (32.29), Sarina Le the 100 butterfly (1:03.09) and Raquel Salinas the 100 breaststroke (1:13.06). 

Erika Hysalliu won the one-meter diving competition (209.55 points).

UWL swept the relays on Friday. Amanda Richards, Emma Schneider, Albert-Nelson and Seebach captured the 200 medley relay (1:54.74) while Lonergran, Hoeben, Molly Banks and Lindsey Evenson took the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.98).

Other top-three finishes included Laci Gottschalk placing second in the one-meter diving (209.15) and third in the three-meter (212.25). Ellen Bie was second in the 500 (5:47.75) and 1,000 (11:38.36) freestyle while Banks second in the 50 freestyle (26.15) and third in the 50 breaststroke (34.80).

Salinas placed second in the 50 breaststroke (33.41). Lonergran was second in the 200 freestyle (2:05.49) while Hoeben placed third (2:06.64). Amanda Richards had a pair of second-place showings in the 50 backstroke (28.36) and 100 freestyle (57.02) while Jordy Hahlen was second in the 100 backstroke (1:00.52) and third in the 50 backstroke (28.71) and 200 I.M. (2:23.89).

Abi Schauske placed second in the 100 butterfly (1:04.51) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.22) while Sydney Guenther was third in the 100 butterfly (1:05.24). Le was second (28.09) and Emma Siegersma third (28.13) in the 50 butterfly with Steien second in the 200 I.M. (2:19.67). Albert-Nelson placed third in the 100 freestyle (57.77), Sophie Benson third in the 100 backstroke (1:04.51) and Emily Rundahl third in the 500 freestyle (5:48.32).

UWL returns to action Saturday, October 30 at the Northfield Colleges Quad Classic in Northfield, Minnesota at 10 a.m.
