UWL Earns Dual Win UW-Whitewater in Home Finale

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team earned a 200-94 dual victory over UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon in Richard L. Pein Natatorium. The Eagles improve to 4-1 in duals and end the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) season with a 4-0 record.

It marks UWL's third straight undefeated (4-0) conference dual season.

UWL's Madalyn Peterson, Maria Vaudreuil, Ellie Szczupakiewicz and Mikala Leppla took first in the 200 medley relay (1:50.11) while Victoria Campbell, Vaudreuil, Ellen Costic and Jaime Kloehn finished second in the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.04). 

The Eagles' Ellen Bie won the 1,000 freestyle (10:56.08) and finished second (5:25.78) in the 500 freestyle.

UWL earned the top-three places in four different events Saturday. Szczupakiewicz finished first (1:01.07), Samantha Smejkal second (1:02.10) and Kalli Behling third (1:02.82) in the 100 butterfly. In the 50 freestyle, Leppla took first (24.73), Kloehn second (25.65) and Molly Banks third (25.85). 

Gabby Barnes was first (1:09.35), Kira Pauls second (1:09.79) and Emma Coltman third (1:11.53) in the 100 breaststroke. In the 100 backstroke, Madalyn Peterson (1:00.44), Szczupakiewicz (1:01.36), and Sophia Benson (1:02.56) took the top-three places. Kaylie Svacina won the 200 I.M. (2:18.25) while Vaudreuil won the 200 breaststroke (2:32.91).

Sydney Vian swept the one (263.15) and three-meter (277.45) diving titles. 

UWL had other top-three finishes in four different events. In the 200 butterfly, Sarina Le took second (2:24.45) while Kathleen Casella finished third (2:28.14). Emily Boettger was second (55.90) and Kaitlyn Michalek third (56.41) in the 100 freestyle. In the 200 backstroke, Peterson finished second (2:17.86) while Amanda Wciorka earned third  (2:18.82). Kalli Behling was second (1:59.50) in the 200 freestyle.

Ellen Costic was third in the 200 (2:00.34) and 500 (5:28.80) freestyle. 

UWL returns to the pool at the WIAC Championships on February 13-15 at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer.
