Box Score Bloomington, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team earned a neutral site victory Friday night with a 1-0 win over Franklin College (Ind.) in a game played at Illinois Wesleyan University. The Eagles improve to 2-2 on the season while the Grizzlies drop to 0-3.
UWL, ranked 17th in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 NCAA Division III Preseason Poll, outshot Franklin (Ind.), 7-3 in a scoreless first half. The Eagles got the game's only goal at 51:09 as
Kaitlyn Villars notched her second goal of the season.
Ainsley Allan recorded her team-leading fifth assist of the year. Villars now has 24 career goals, eighth in school history.
The Eagles finished with 10 shots in the second half while holding the Grizziles to one. UWL totaled 17 shots overall with five on goal while Franklin (Ind.) finished with four shots, including one on goal.
Quinn Shannon earned the shutout victory for UWL, finishing with one save. Lexi Short suffered the loss for Franklin (Ind.), totaling four saves.
Villars finished with four shots (two on goal) while
Cassidy Rothwell had three shots (one on goal). Allan and
Kiana Van Fossen each had two shots.
Four different players recorded a shot for the Grizzlies in the first-ever meeting between the teams.
