Rochester, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team split a pair of games at the Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) Bubble Saturday night. The Eagles earned their first win of the season, 8-0 in five innings, over Ripon College (Wis.) before falling, 9-1 in six innings, to the University of Dubuque (Iowa). UWL is now 1-3 on the season.
Caitlyn Hughes earned the win for UWL in the opener over Ripon (Wis.), pitching 5.0 innings, allowing one hit and one walk with nine strikeouts.Â
The Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second and three more in the fourth, highlighted by ??? Segobiano's two-run single. UWL finished the scoring in the fifth with a pair of runs.Â
UWL totaled 12 hits with
Mia Schmidtke and
Kendra Leis each finishing 3-for-4.
Katie Block went 2-for-2 while
Sabrina Scardamaglia and
Stephanie Cole each scored twice for the Eagles.
Addison Lindsey had Ripon's (Wis.) lone hit. Lilli Smith took the loss, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing 12 hits, eight runs (six earned) and two walksÂ
Dubuque (Iowa) score twice in the top of the first in its win over UWL. The Eagles cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the second on
Kathryn Vander Schaaf's RBI single knocking in
Sydney Murphy. The Spartans took a 4-1 lead in the third before adding four runs in the fourth and one in the sixth.Â
Vander Schaaf and Murphy each had a hit for UWL.
Maddie Muelken suffered the loss, going 2.2 innings, allowing seven hits, four runs and one walk while striking out one.Â
UWL returns to action Friday, March 8 versus St. Catherine University (Minn.). The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. at the Packer Dome in Austin, Minnesota.
