Auburndale, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team fell, 2-0, to 12th-ranked University of Southern Maine Sunday at the Lake Myrtle Park Complex. The Eagles drop to 0-2 on the season while the Huskies improve to 4-1. UWL is receiving votes on this week's D3baseball.com Top-25 Poll while Southern Maine is ranked 12th.
Southern Maine scored both of its run in the bottom of the sixth. Zach Quintal scored on a UWL throwing error for the first run of the game followed by Dylan Hapworth's triple to knock in Jake Dexter.
UWL finished with five hits in the game and six runners left on base. The Eagles left a pair of runners on in the sixth and eighth innings.
Jack Dwyer went 2-for-4 for UWL while
Zach Carney,
Chase Scharnek and
Shane Coker each had one hit.
Mason McMahon (0-1) took the loss for UWL, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing three hits, two runs and two walks while striking out six.
Zach Pronschinske went 2.0 innings with two strikeouts.
Southern Maine was held to three hits. Four pitchers combined on the shutout for the Huskies with Ben Lambert earning the win. He went 7.0 innings, allowing three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts. Dexter earned the save, pitching 1.1 innings, allowing one hit with two strikeouts.
UWL returns to action with a pair of games Monday, March 18 in Auburndale. The Eagles face Benedictine University (Ill.) at 9:30 a.m. (Central) and second-ranked Rowan University (N.J.) at 2 p.m.
