UWL Falls at UW-Stevens Point in WIAC First Round

Stevens Point, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-14) at UW-Stevens Point Tuesday night in Berg Gymnasium in the first round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships (presented by Culver's). The Eagles finish the season at 16-14 while the Pointers improve to 24-8 and advance to the WIAC Semifinals Thursday, November 7. 

The opening set was tied, 2-2, when UW-Stevens Point went on a 12-2 run to lead 14-4 after a Megan Lau kill. UWL could get no closer than points the rest of the set. The Pointers raced out to a 7-2 lead in the second set before the Eagles cut it to 7-4 on a Anna Rossner kill. UW-Stevens Point later led 17-12, but a Pointers' serve error and a Brianne Korducki kill by the Eagles cut the lead to 17-14. UW-Stevens Point took the next two points to lead 19-14 and UWL could get no closer than four points the rest of the set. 

UW-Stevens Point scored 11 of the first 13 points in the third set before UWL cut the deficit to 12-7 after a pair of Emma Lawrence kills. The Eagles trailed, 13-9, on a Lawrence kill, but the Pointers scored the next five points to lead 18-9. 

Lawrence led UWL with eight kills with Korducki finishing with seven. Abbey Fox had 16 assists as the Eagles hit .037 (25-21-109). 

Sophie Quelle had a team-high 16 digs. Fox finished with eight digs. UWL had 3.0 team blocks.

April Gehl led three UW-Stevens Point players in double figures in kills with 14. Tara Emme had 13 kills while hitting .684 (13-0-19) while Megan Lau had 11 kills. Ellie Adams recorded 36 assists as the Pointers hit .295 (44-13-105). 

Emma Peterson had a team-high 15 digs while Adams finished with 12 and Mazie Nagel with 10. UW-Stevens Point had 8.0 team blocks.
