Box Score Dubuque, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 84-44 victory over Blackburn College (Ill.) Saturday afternoon in the Loras College (Iowa) Tip-Off Classic. The Beavers fall to 0-3.
UWL started off strong with a Zac Haese three-pointer for the first points of the game. Blackburn (Ill.) cut the lead to 6-5 on a David Lopez three-pointer, but UWL used a 35-2 run to take a 41-7 lead with 2:33 remaining on Henry Noone's three-point field goal. The Beavers were held scoreless for over 10 minutes, missing 10 straight shots from the field.Â
UWL made six straight three-pointers, including three from Noone, to take a 47-11 lead with 1:31 left in the half. Luke Norcia, Terek Nesheim and Sean Suchomel each made one three-pointer.
The Eagles led, 49-12, at halftime as the Beavers shot 16.7% (four-of-24) from the field. UWL shot 58.1% (18-of-31) from the field in the first half, including 58.8% (10-of-17) from three-point range. Noone had 15 first half points while Ethan Anderson finished with eight.Â
Blackburn could get no closer than 26 points in the second half with 13:58 remaining.Â
UWL shot 52.5% from the field, including 43.8% (14-of-32) from three-point range and 66.7% (eight-of-12) at the free throw line. Ethan Anderson and Noone led the Eagles with 15 points each while Terek Nesheim finished with 13. Eleven different players scored for UWL. Nesheim had a team-high eight rebounds while Wyatt Cook finished with seven.Â
Suchomel finished with five assists and five rebounds while Norcia totaled four assists. Seth Anderson had two steals.
Blackburn (Ill.) shot 27.8% from the field, including 22.6% (seven-of-31) from three-point range and 46.7% (seven-of-15) at the line. Bryson Kirby led the Beavers with eight points while Chanz Aldridge finished with seven. Kirby also had three steals with Jason Stovall finishing with a team-leading four rebounds.
UWL returns to action Tuesday, November 19 at Marian University (Wis.) at 7 p.m.
