UWL Falls in Exhibition at Wisconsin

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team fell 82-53 at the University of Wisconsin in an exhibition game Friday night at the Kohl Center. Both teams were playing their first exhibition game of the season. 

It marked the second-ever exhibition meeting between the two teams. Wisconsin earned a 84-59 win on November 6, 2010 in Madison. The Badgers lead the all-time regular-season series, 3-0, with the teams playing in 1912-13, 1920-21 and 1921-22.

This year's game also marked the fourth annual Cancer Awareness Game featuring a partnership with Garding Against Cancer and the UW Carbone Cancer Center.  UWL hosted the Garding Against Cancer reception in UWL's Student Union on September 12.  

UWL took a 3-2 lead on Zac Haese' first three-pointer of the game at 19:17. The Eagles later cut the lead to 10-9 with 15:46 left on a Ethan Anderson three-pointer. Wyatt Cook's jumper with 11:02 left cut Wisconsin's lead to 17-12, but UWL could get no closer the rest of the game. Wisconsin led 28-20 when it used a 15-2 run to end the half and lead, 43-22. 

The Eagles made their first three shots of the second half to cut the deficit to 45-29, but the Badgers went on an 19-4 run to lead 64-33 with 12:17 left. UWL scored the next seven points to cut the deficit to 64-40, but could get no closer in the second half.

UWL shot 29.2% from the field for the game, including 28.1% (nine-of-32) from three-point range, and 54.5% (six-of-11) at the free throw line. Anderson led the Eagles with 12 points while Haese finished with 10. Anderson added five rebounds. Cook, Terek Nesheim and Henry Noone each had six points for UWL with Cook leading the team with four assists and two steals. 

Wisconsin shot 51.7% from the field, including 33.3% (seven-of-21) from three-point range, and 50.0% (13-of-26) at the line. All five starters scored in double figures with Nate Reuvers leading the way with 15 points. Kobe King finished with 14 points as well as a team-high eight rebounds and five assists for the Badgers. Brad Davison finished with 13 points while Aleem Ford added 12 and D'Mitrick Trice 10. 

UWL opens its regular-season Tuesday, November 12 at Bethel University (Minn.) at 7:45 p.m. The Eagles' home opener is Tuesday, November 26 versus Augsburg University (Minn.) at 7 p.m.
