Mequon, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team extended its winning streak to six straight with a 3-0 victory at Concordia University Wisconsin Sunday afternoon at Fitting Field. The Eagles improve to 7-2-1 overall while the Falcons drop to 6-6 on the season. Concordia Wisconsin had its five-game winning streak snapped with Sunday's loss.
UWL took a 1-0 lead at 20:59 as
Alex Cording scored on an assist from
Kaitlyn Villars. It was Cording's second goal of the season.
Maya Schmitt made it 2-0 at 29:04 on a penalty kick, her third goal of the year.
The Eagles, receiving votes on this week's United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, had 11 shots in the first half while the Falcons were held to three.
Heather Baran made it 3-0 at 58:28 as Cording and
Cassie Handrick had assists. It is Baran's second goal of the season.
UWL totaled 20 shots in the game, including 10 on goal. Cording, Villars and Handrick each had four shots. Concordia Wisconsin was held to seven shots, including one on goal. Nicole Ciesielczyk had three shots for the Falcons.
Kennedy Brault (1-1) earned the shutout victory, recording one save. Kaeley Sterkel suffered the loss for Concordia Wisconsin, finishing with seven saves.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, October 3 at Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) at 4 p.m.
