Auburndale, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team earned a 4-0 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology (N.Y.) Wednesday afternoon at Chain of Lakes Park. The Eagles improve to 4-2 on the season while the Tigers drop to 2-3. Both teams are receiving votes on this week's D3baseball.com Top-25 Poll.
Travis Berg (1-0) and
Caleb Willems combined on the shutout for UWL. Berg went 8.0 innings, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out 11. Willems pitched 1.0 inning, allowing one hit with two strikeouts. RIT (N.Y.) did not advance a runner past second base in the game.Â

The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
Luke Schmitt's bunt single knocked in
Zach Carney with the first run of the game.
Nate Heili later scored an unearned run on
Shane Coker's sacrifice fly for a 2-0 lead.
UWL added to its lead in the bottom of the sixth as
Jack Dwyer scored on
Alex Robson's groundout. Dwyer had walked to start the inning, advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on a groundout.
Brennan Schmitt and Dwyer hit back-to-back leadoff doubles in the bottom of the eighth to gave the Eagles a 4-0 lead.
UWL finished with eight hits as Luke Schmit went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Five other players recorded a hit for the Eagles.
RIT (N.Y.) totaled six hits with Oatrick Mylott and Joey Mylott each finishing 2-for-3. Jameson Moran (0-1) suffered the loss for the Tigers, going 6.0 innings, allowing four hits, three runs (two earned) and two walks while striking out seven.
UWL returns to action Thursday, March 15 facing Illinois Wesleyan University at 8:45 a.m. (Central) in Auburndale, Florida.
