UWL Secures Soccer Title with Tie at UW-Stevens Point

Stevens Point, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team ended its regular season with a 0-0 double overtime tie at UW-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon at the Point Soccer Bowl. The Eagles finish the regular season 15-2-2 overall and 6-0-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pointers finish 12-2-3 overall and 5-0-2 in the conference. 

With the tie, UWL earns its second straight WIAC regular-season title. The Eagles, ranked 18th in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, finish with 19 points in the league standings while UW-Stevens Point totals 17. Both teams will host a WIAC Championship Semifinal on Thursday, November 1. UWL will be the top-seed and UW-Stevens Point the second seed.

It is UWL's fourth (1996, 2015, 2017, 2018) regular season conference crown in school history.  

UWL finished with seven shots in the first half, including four on goal, while UW-Stevens Point was held to one shot on goal.  The Eagles recorded seven shots in the second half and four in overtime the Pointers totaled two shots in the second half and one in overtime. 

UWL had 18 shots overall with nine on goal. Alex Cording finished with five shots (two on goal) while Maya Schmitt had three shots (all on goal). UW-Stevens Point finished with four shots, including two on goal. 

Lily Brock recorded two saves for the Eagles while Lexi Pawlowski recorded nine for the Pointers.

UWL returns to action Thursday, November 1 hosting a WIAC Championship Semifinal.
