UW-La Crosse Earns Conference Win over UW-Platteville

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team earned a 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 25-11) victory over UW-Platteville Friday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles improve to 13-9 overall and 3-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pioneers fall to 7-16 overall and 0-5 in the conference. 

UW-Platteville would lead 2-1 in the first set, but that would be its only lead as UWL would come back with five straight points to lead 6-2.  The Pioneers closed it to 9-8, but would get no closer as the Eagles would take the set behind Kathryn Maas' five kills and one solo block.

A Maas kill off an Abbey Fox assist would tie the game at 9-9 in the second set.  The Eagles would go on a 7-2 run to finish the set, including two kills by Emma Lawrence.

In the third set, the Eagles jumped out to a 9-1 lead and would not look back, completing the sweep 25-11. 

UWL was led by Lawrence and Maas, each with seven kills, and would hit .162 (30-13-105) as a team. Fox recorded 24 assists.  Sophie Quelle finished with a team-leading 20 digs while Julia Van Fleet recorded 11. The Eagles had 4.0 total team blocks.

Cassie Johnson led UW-Platteville with seven kills while hitting .032 (7-6-31) . Lauren Murphy had 11 assists and Olivia Kudronowicz had a game-high 22 digs.  The Pioneers also finished with 2.0 total team blocks.

UWL returns to action Saturday, October 13 with two matches at the Coe College (Iowa) Mabel Lee Invitational. The Eagles face College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) at 2 p.m. and host Coe (Iowa) at 4 p.m.
