UW-La Crosse Wins Twelve Events in Dual with St. Cloud State

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's and men's swimming & diving team won 12 events in its season-opening home dual versus NCAA Division II St. Cloud State University (Minn.) Friday afternoon in the Richard L. Pein Natatorium. St. Cloud State (Minn.) earned a 156-89 win on the women's side and 133-100 for the men.

In women's action, UWL's Kayley Alioto swept the one (245.50 points) and three (264.70) diving titles while Victoria Campbell won the 200 freestyle (1:59.93) and Ellie Szczupakiewicz won the 500 freestyle (5:28.04). Campbell was also second in the 100 freestyle (55.19) while Szczupakiewicz finished second in the 1,000 freestyle (11:12.10). 

Caroline Holverson was second (259.95) in the three-meter diving competition.

In the swimming events, Maddie Volk was second in the 200 I.M. (2:18.92) and third in the 100 backstroke (1:02.88) while Maria Vaudreuil recorded a pair of third-place finishes in the 200 I.M. (2:22.19) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.84). Samantha Seymour was second in the 100 butterfly (1:00.94).

The Eagles' were second in both relays Friday. Volk, Vaudreuil, Seymour and Jaime Kloehn finished second in the 200 medley relay (1:52.53) while Kloehn, Courtney Boak, Szczupakiewicz and Campbell finished second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:46.63).

In the men's dual, UWL swept the relays with Sergio Solis, Marley Kaiser, Hans Hover and Ryan Jessen winning the 200 medley relay (1:34.80) and Jessen, Hover, Charles Hartt and Jacob Burchfield the 400 freestyle relay (3:09.36).

Hart and Burchfield each captured a pair of individual titles Friday with Hartt winning the 200 (1:44.21) and 500 (4:51.35) freestyle while Burchfield took the 200 I.M. (1:57.09) and 100 freestyle (46.41).

Two other swimmers won titles with Jessen capturing the 50 freestyle (20.93) and Kaiser the 100 breaststroke (1:00.38).

Hover placed third in the 100 butterfly (52.94) while Solis was third in the 100 backstroke (54.76) and Adam Baryenbruch third in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.19).

UWL returns to action Saturday, January 13 at the Luther College (Iowa) Sprint Invitational at 10:30 a.m.
