Platteville, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team earned a doubleheader split at UW-Platteville Saturday afternoon at Kendall Murray Field.  The Eagles won the opener 6-4, before falling, 3-0, in the nightcap.  UWL finishes its regular season at 25-15 overall and 11-9 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).  UW-Platteville finishes its season at 9-21 overall and 4-16 in the conference.

UWL took three of four games in the series after a doubleheader sweep Friday. With its two wins Friday, UWL clinched a berth in the WIAC Championship (presented by Culver's) May 12-13 at UW-Whitewater.  The Eagles face UW-Stevens Point Friday, May 12 at 10 a.m.

In Saturday's opener, UWL fell behind 1-0 in the first inning before scoring two unearned runs in the second to take the lead.  Alex Brown doubled to right, scoring Nate Roethle, who had reached base earlier in the inning on a throwing error.  Cal Tully then singled down the right field line, driving in Brown to give UWL a 2-1 lead.

In the top of the fourth, Brady Stolzman and Roethle opened the frame with back-to-back singles.  After a groundout moved the runners to second and third, Brown hit a three-run home run to right to put UWL up 5-1.  Sam Prissel's solo home run in the top of the fifth made it 6-1.

UW-Platteville scored three runs on two hits with two UWL errors in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead to 6-4, but Nic Pierick came on to get the final out and end the threat.

Caleb Willems came on for the Eagles in the bottom of the ninth to earn his seventh save of the season.  After allowing a double from Josh Moses with one out, Willems got the final two batters to ground out to end the game.
