La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team earned a 4-0 victory over Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.) Tuesday night at Copeland Park. The Eagles improve to 17-13 on the season while the Raiders fall to 17-15.
In the first-ever meeting between the teams, UWL took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third.
Joel Zyhowski singled with two outs, stole second and scored on Nick Peschek's RBI double. The Eagles made it 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth with
Nate Heili scoring on
Brennan Schmitt's fielder's choice.
The game remained 2-0 until the bottom of the eighth when UWL's
Carter Hoffman led-off with a solo home run for a 3-0 lead.
Brady Stolzman's single later scored Heili in the inning to finish the scoring.
In his first start of the season,
Brock Rude (2-1) earned the win for UWL, going 6.0 innings, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out three. Rude, making his third career start, did not allow a MSOE runner to reach second base in his 6.0 innings of work.
Nic Pierick picked up his first career save, pitching 3.0 innings, allowing one hit and one walk with four strikeouts.
UWL totaled 11 hits with Zyhowski, Pescheck, Stolzman and
Alex Barnard each finishing with two.
Justin Celeski (2-2) took the loss for MSOE, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing six hits, two runs and one walk with one strikeout. Three different players had a hit for the Raiders. MSOE advanced one runner to third base in the game.
UWL returns to action Saturday, April 29 hosting UW-Stevens Point in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) doubleheader at 2:30 p.m.
