2017 NCAA III Soccer First/Second Round

Soccer Team Advances To NCAA III Second Round

Box Score 1 La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team advanced to the second round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Soccer Tournament with a 2-0 victory over the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) Saturday at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.  The Eagles improve to 18-1-3 on the season while the Saints, which secured an automatic bid to the tournament by winning the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference, ends its season at 13-7-3.  

UWL will face the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) on Sunday, November 12 at 1 p.m. at Veterans Field.  The teams last met September 3 in St. Paul, battling to a 2-2 tie in double-overtime.  The Tommies advanced to the second round with a 1-0 victory over Wartburg College (Iowa).  

The win Saturday for UWL was the first in school history in the NCAA III Championships.  The Eagles fell 3-0 to Pomona-Pitzer College (Calif.) in the first round of the 2015 national tournament in it's only other appearance.
 
UWL's Tori Barnhart recorded her first goal of the season Saturday to give UWL a 1-0 lead 18:02 into the contest.  Barnhart scored off of a corner kick, and was assisted by Kaitlyn Villars on the play. 

Rachel Rogahn scored her third goal of the year at 39:11 to put the Eagles up 2-0.  The goal came off of a blocked shot, and was assisted by Alex Cording. 



UWL finished with 28 shots in the game, including ten on goal.  St. Scholastica (Minn.) totaled just five shots, and two on goal.  Cording recorded seven shots, including three on goal, while Rogahn totaled five shots, with four on goal. 

Lily Brock recorded two saves for the Eagles, while Roni Rudolph recorded eight saves for the Saints.  

The Eagles host its second-round game against St. Thomas (Minn.) Sunday, November 12 at 1 p.m.
