La Crosse, Wis. - The University of St. Thomas (Minn.) soccer team advanced to the second round of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Soccer Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Wartburg College (Iowa) Saturday at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Tommies improve to 12-3-3 on the season and will face UW-La Crosse on Sunday, November 12 at 1 p.m, while the Knights finish their season with a record of 10-6-4.
St. Thomas and UWL met earlier this season in St. Paul, battling to a 2-2 overtime tie on September 3.
On Saturday, Brielle Bierman scored the only goal of the game at 14:56 with an assist from Shelby Stalberger to give the Tommies the 1-0 victory.
St. Thomas (Minn.) recorded 22 shots in the contest, including eight on goal. Wartburg (Iowa) had 16 shots, with two on goal.
Olivia Elvidge had two saves in goal for St. Thomas (Minn.), including one in the final seconds to secure the victory. Beth Crow had seven saves for Wartburg (Iowa).
Kickoff for UWL and St. Thomas (Minn.) will be at 1 p.m. at Veterans Field on Sunday, November 12.
