Menomonie, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team fell 65-60 at UW-Stout Saturday afternoon in Johnson Fieldhouse. The Eagles drop to 9-6 overall and 1-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blue Devils improve to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
UWL led by as many as five points in the first half at 16-11 with 10:54 remaining after a
Clint Rihn three-pointer. The Eagles later led 29-28 with 3:28 left when the Blue Devils finished the half scoring the final five points to lead 33-29.
Zach Schradle's free throw with 17:18 left cut UW-Stout's lead to 33-32, but the Blue Devils went on a 8-0 run to lead 41-32. UW-Stout led 46-39 with 11:52 remaining when UWL used a 12-2 run to lead 51-48 with 8:48 left on a
Taulvish McCray three-point field goal. The Eagles led 55-54 with 5:45 remaining on Schradle's tip-in before the Blue Devils took the lead on a pair of free throws from Jacob Nordstrom with 3:55 left.
The Eagles cut the lead to 58-57 with 2:37 remaining on
Milton Cummings' layup, but Nordstrom's layup made it 60-57 with 2:07 left. UWL could get no closer the rest of the game as UW-Stout went five-of-six at the free throw line in the final :57.
UWL shot 41.1% from the field, including 41.2% (seven-of-17) from three-point range, and 53.8% (seven-of-13) at the free throw line.
Austin Fritz led the Eagles with 13 points while Schradle and McCray each finished with 11. Schradle had a game-high 15 rebounds.
UW-Stout shot 42.9% from the field, including 22.2% (four-of-18) from three-point range, and 92.9% (13-of-14) at the line. Five players scored in double figures for the Blue Devils with Nordstrom and Cory Speer each finishing with 12. Brett Ahsenmacher and John Lahti each had 11 points while Sam Ortmann finished with 10.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, January 18 hosting seventh-ranked UW-River Falls at 7 p.m.
