UW-Eau Claire 128, UWL 112
La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming and diving team fell 128-112 to UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon at the Richard L. Pein Natatorium in the Eagles' first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual of the season.
UWL won three individual swimming titles on Saturday and also swept both relays.
The Eagles'
Ryan Jessen captured the 50-yard freestyle (21.20) with
Austin Kandt third (23.18) in the event.
Trevor Andersen won the 1000-yard freestyle (10:42.01) while
Andrew Torresani placed third (11:04.00).
In the 200-yard freestyle,
Jackson Uselman won the crown (1:46.96) with
Nicholas Brehmer third (1:48.48), and
Kipp Dietrich fifth (1:51.88).
The UWL team of
Jacob Burchfield,
Quinton Maydaniuk, Uselman, and Jessen won the 200-yard medley relay (1:37.23) while Burchfield, Brehmer, Uselman, and Jessen captured the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:11.17).
The Eagles also got an individual diving title from
Kyle Wolmutt. He won the one-meter crown with 262.05 points, also finishing third (221.30) at three meters while
Elijah Heggernes was third at three meters (192.75) and fourth at one meter (194.20).
In other events,
Brandon Sandquist was second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.35), with
Seth Gutzmer third (2:10.97), and
Augustus Brenzel fifth (2:18.27).
Andersen was second in the 500 free (5:11.24), with Torresani third (5:18.78). In the 100 free, Burchfield swam second (48.09) and Brehmer was third (49.01).
In the 200-yard breaststroke, Maydaniuk was second (2:17.97) and
Austin Kandt placed fifth (2:28.17), while in the 200-yard IM,
Erik Wickstrom was third (2:05.51) with Maydaniuk fifth (2:06.85).
Wickstrom was also third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.54) with Dietrich fourth (2:07.01).
UW-L returns to action Saturday, November 19 at Luther College (Iowa) starting at 1 p.m.
