Women's Tennis Defeats UW-Eau Claire in WIAC Dual

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's tennis team earned a 5-4 victory over UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon at Veterans Courts. The Eagles improve to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blugolds drop to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

With the win, UWL improves to 47-8 (.855) overall and 14-3 (.824) in the WIAC the last three seasons.

UWL took two of the three doubles matches Saturday, including Hayley Clope/Alaina Bublitz with a 9-7 win over Olivia Gallagher/Molly Stewart at No. 2 doubles and Samantha Fleming/Lauren Weise with a 8-3 victory over Brooke Volpone/Hannah Zevenbergen at No. 3. The Blugolds earned the win at No. 1 doubles as Sarah Henderson/Natalie Wijesinghe defeated Bridget Bellissimo/Sadie Spahn by the score of 8-3.

The teams split the six singles matches. For UWL, Bellissimo defeated Henderson at No. 1 singles (6-2, 3-6, 6-0); Clope defeated Gallagher at No. 3 singles (6-3, 6-4) and Maura Andersen beat Kendra Berry at No. 5 (6-3, 7-5). Andersen's win clinched the team victory for the Eagles.

UW-Eau Claire's Wijesinghe defeated Spahn at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-2) while Stewart defeated Fleming at No. 4 (6-3, 6-3) and Bailey Budnik defeated Bublitz at No. 6 (6-1, 6-1).
