Box Score Arden Hills, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team rallied for a 3-2 double overtime victory at Bethel University (Minn.) Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 6-3 on the season while the Royals drop to 2-5. UWL's six victories surpass last year's total of five as the Eagles finished 5-8-5. UWL improves to 3-1 in overtime in 2015, winning three straight.
After a scoreless first half, Bethel (Minn.) took a 1-0 lead at 67:15 with Savannah Swanson scoring assisted by Mikala Smith. The Royals took a 2-0 lead less than 30 seconds later with Smith scoring assisted by Sydney Wright.
UWL cut the lead to 2-1 at 79:31 as
Margaret Harings notched her third goal of the season with
Megan Carroll earning the assist. The Eagles tied the match at 2-2 at 84:54 on
Kaylie Hanson's goal assisted by
Rachel Rogahn. It was her second goal of the year.
The match went into overtime before UWL's
Kara Bednarek scored the winning goal at 104:24 with
Natalie Herzog recording an assist. It was her second goal of the year.
Kennedy Brault recorded two saves for UWL while Jess Gapinski finished with 12 for Bethel (Minn.).
The Eagles finished with 22 shots Wednesday, including 15 on goal.
Cassie Handrick led UWL with six shots with four on goal. Rogahn recorded four shots and Bednarek three with both players finishing with three shots on goal.
The Royals totaled seven shots with four on goal.
UWL returns to action Saturday, September 26 hosting UW-River Falls at 1 p.m. in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opener for UWL.
