Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team fell 2-1 in double overtime to Augustana College (Ill.) Tuesday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex in the season opener for both teams.  Augustana (Ill.) now leads the all-time series, 3-0, with UWL.  The Vikings' first two victories came in 2009 and 2010.

Kara Bednarek scored for UWL on a penalty kick at 75:26 after a hand ball was called on Augustana (Ill.) in the penalty box.

The Vikings answered just a minute later to tie the score at 1-1 on a Bri Frys header off of a corner kick at 76:29.  

Augustana (Ill.) broke the tie in the second overtime period on a goal from Grace Iaquinta, giving the Vikings the win.

"It's good to get our first game behind us," said UWL Head Coach Jason Murphy.  "We played well at times, but when we get a one goal lead against a good team, with 15 minutes left in the game, we have to learn how to finish the game.  On the flip side, we are really excited about the play of alot of individuals, and we are anxious to get back to training tomorrow." 

Kennedy Brault made seven saves in her first start in goal for the Eagles.  

UWL finished with 12 shots, including four on goal while Augustana (Ill.) finished with 21 shots and nine on goal.  Each team had a shot in the first overtime, and the only shot in the second overtime came from the Vikings on the Iaquinta goal.  

The Eagles recorded 13 fouls while the Vikings had 10.  UWL had five corner kicks and Augustana (Ill.) four.  

UWL returns to action Saturday, September 4 at Luther College (Iowa) starting at 7 p.m.
