Box Score Eau Claire, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team fell 69-52 at UW-Eau Claire Saturday night in Zorn Arena. The Eagles drop to 11-13 overall and 6-9 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blugolds improve to 10-13 overall and 6-8 in the conference.
UW-Eau Claire led 10-5 early in the game, but
Johnny Coenen's layup and
Trent Schmidt's three-pointer tied the game for UW-L. The Eagles led by as many as four points in the first half at 22-18 with 6:12 remaining after
Skylar Cameron's three-point field goal. UW-L led 26-23, but UW-Eau Claire finished the half on a 7-2 run to lead 30-28 at halftime.
The Blugolds never trailed in the second half. Leading 42-39 with 12:23 remaining, UW-Eau Claire scored five straight points to lead 47-39 after Jacob Kohner's layup. UW-L cut the lead to 50-45 with 7:16 left on
Cale Zuiker's three-pointer, but the Eagles could get no closer the rest of the game. UW-Eau Claire used an 11-2 run to lead 61-47 with 2:58 remaining.
UW-L shot 33.3% from the field, including 32.1% (nine-of-28) from three-point range, and 63.6% (seven-of-11) at the free throw line. Coenen led the Eagles with 13 points, five rebounds and three steals while
Jared Staege finished with seven points.Â

Ryan Kruser, Zuiker and Schmidt each scored six points.
UW-Eau Claire shot 50.0% from the field, including 41.2% (seven-of-17) from three-point range, and 87.0% (20-of-23) at the line. Kohner led the Blugolds with 21 points while George Diekelman finished with 14 points and Lewis Mau with 10. Diekelman and Mau each finished with a team-high nine rebounds.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, February 18 at UW-Platteville at 7 p.m. in its regular-season finale.
