Men's Basketball Falls at Central College

Milton Cummings finished with a career-high eight points Saturday.
Box Score Pella, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team fell 78-58 at Central College (Iowa) Saturday afternoon in P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium.  The Eagles drop to 3-5 on the season while the Dutch improve to 5-1.  The all-time series is now tied, 1-1, between the two teams.

UWL took an early 4-3 lead with 16:46 left in the first half after a Ben Meinholz jumper, but Central (Iowa) went on an 20-1 run to lead 23-5 with 8:45 remaining.  The Eagles missed nine straight field goal attempts before a Meinholz layup with 8:16 left cut the Dutch lead to 23-7.

UWL scored seven straight points overall to cut the margin to 23-12 with 5:36 left, but Central (Iowa) responded with a 7-0 run of its own to lead 30-12 with 2:59 remaining in the half.  The Dutch led by as many as 20 points in the first half before taking a 37-18 halftime advantage.

Central (Iowa) opened the second half on a 16-2 run to lead 53-20.  The Dutch led by as many as 36 points in the second half with the Eagles getting no closer than 16 the rest of the game.

UWL shot 32.8% from the field, including 44.0% (11-of-25) from three-point range, and 58.3% (seven-of-12) at the line.  Luke Norcia led all scorers with 20 points Saturday, finsihing seven-of-11 from the field, including six-of-nine from three-point range.  He also had three assists.

Meinholz finished with 10 points for UWL while Milton Cummings totaled eight.  Jared Staege had a team-high seven rebounds.

Central (Iowa) shot 43.9% from the field, including 36.0% (nine-of-25) from three-point range, and 79.2% (19-of-24) at the line.  Colby Taylor led four players in double figures for the Dutch with 18 points while Pete Walker finished with 14, Austin Glawe with 12 and Ryan Kunkel with 10.  Kunkel had a game-high 11 rebounds and four blocks.

UWL returns to action Wednesday, December 9 hosting Luther College (Iowa) at 7 p.m.
