Box Score De Pere, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team finished in a 1-1 double overtime tie at St. Norbert College (Wis.) Saturday afternoon. The Eagles, ranked 24th on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), are now 12-4-1 on the season while the Green Knights are 10-4-2. UWL is ranked first in the NSCAA North Region while St. Norbert (Wis.) is 10th.
UWL took a 1-0 lead at 12:29 as
Alex Cording scored her fifth goal of the season. It was an unassisted goal.
The Eagles led 1-0 at halftime after each squad recorded five shots.
St. Norbert (Wis.) tied the match at 1-11 at 59:08 with Katie Vanden Avond scoring her 34th goal of the season. Sarah Bowles recorded the assists. Vanden Avond set an National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III record with her 125th career goal, breaking the record of 124 set by Katie Pettigrew of Luther College (Iowa) from 2001-04.
UWL finished with 19 shots Saturday, including seven in the two overtime sessions.
Heather Willems led the Eagles with five shots while Cording finished with four. St. Norbert (Wis.) totaled nine shots overall with one in overtime. Vanden Avond had seven shots.
Kennedy Brault recorded five saves for UWL while Maddie Plinska finished with nine for St. Norbert (Wis.). The Green Knights also had one team save.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, October 28 hosting UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m.
