Box Score St. Paul, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse fell 2-0 at St. Catherine University (Minn.) Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles drop to 12-4 on the season after their school record eight-match winning streak was snapped. The Wildcats improve to 9-5-1 on the season, earning their first win over the Eagles. UWL had won the previous two meetings with St. Catherine (Minn.), winning 2-0 in 2004 and 1-0 in 2010.
UWL set a school record with eight straight wins after a 1-0 overtime victory at UW-Whitewater October 17. The Eagles won seven straight matches in 1994 and 1999.
St. Catherine (Minn.) took a 1-0 lead at 38:45 with Molly Hayes scoring her first goal of the season. The Wildcats led 2-0 at halftime. Hannah Okerstrom notched her ninth goal of the season for St. Catherine (Minn.) at 89:00 assisted by Kelly Molitor.
UWL, ranked 24th in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top-25 Poll, finished with 13 shots Wednesday, including six on goal.
Alex Cording had four shots with two on goal.
Cassie Handrick finished with three shots (one on goal) while
Margaret Harings totaled two shots.
The Eagles are ranked second on this week's NSCAA North Region Poll and first in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III North Region.
St. Catherine (Minn.) totaled 14 shots Wednesday, including six on goal. Okerstrom had four shots with two on goal while Hayes and Anna Pedersen each had two shots, both on goal.
Kennedy Brault recorded four saves for UWL while Danielle Mendez finished with six for St. Catherine (Minn.)
UWL returns to action Saturday, October 24 at St. Norbert College (Wis.) at 2 p.m. St. Norbert (Wis.) is ranked 10th in the NSCAA North Region.
