Men's Basketball Falls at UW-Stevens Point

Cale Zuiker had 17 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks against UW-Stevens Point
Box Score Stevens Point, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team fell 57-46 to 18th ranked UW-Stevens Point Wednesday night at Bennett Court.  The Eagles drop to 7-8 overall and 2-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC), while the Pointers improve to 12-3 overall and 6-0 in the conference. 
 
The Pointers led by as many as seven points in the first half after starting the game on a 5-0 run.  Cale Zuiker scored the first eight points for the Eagles, hitting a pair of free throws at the 17:54 mark, and cutting the lead to 9-8 after hitting his second three pointer with 15:08 remaining.  UW-L again cut the lead to one at 23-22 with 2:41 left to play after another jumper by Zuiker, but UW-Stevens Point closed the half on a 6-0 run and led 29-22 at halftime.
 
In the second half, the lead grew to 12 points at 17:25 after a steal and fast break dunk by Joe Ritchay of UW-Stevens Point.  UW-L was able to cut the lead to five points on three occasions in the half, the final time after Zuiker's layup with 8:25 left.  But a 9-1 run gave the Pointers its largest lead at 56-43 with :44 left.  The loss was the third straight for UW-L against UW-Stevens Point.                     
 
UW-L shot 35.6% from the field, including 31.6% (six-of-19) from three-point range, and 80.0% (eight-of-10) at the free throw line.  Zuiker led the Eagles with 17 points, nine rebounds, and three blocks.  Jared Staege also scored 17 and added five rebounds.  Skylar Cameron had three assists for UW-L.  

UW-Stevens Point shot 44.4% from the field, including 42.9% (six-of-14) from three-point range, and 84.6% (11-of-13) at the line. Austin Ryf scored 13 points for the Pointers, Stephen Pelkofer and Alex Richard added 11, and Jordan Lutz finished with 10.  Richard had a team high six rebounds. 

UW-L returns to action Saturday, January 17 hosting second-ranked UW-Whitewater at 3 p.m. in Mitchell Hall.
