Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team opened its 2014 home schedule in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) with a 2-1 victory over UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The Eagles improve to 3-2-3 overall and 1-0-1 in the WIAC while the Blugolds fall to 2-5-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
UW-Eau Claire took a 1-0 lead at 40:36 on Hannah Schweitzer's first goal of the season assisted by Carolyn Payne. The Blugolds led 1-0 at halftime.
UW-L tallied a pair of goals in the second half to earn the win.
Sarah Jacobs scored her first goal of the season at 46:27 assisted by
Kourtni Alcock on a header off a free kick to force a 1-1 tie.
Kelly Denk then scored the eventual match-winning goal at 71:46 off a free kick to make it 2-1.
UW-L totaled 12 shots in the match, including five on goal, while UW-Eau Claire finished with 19 shots, nine on goal.
Ashley Tracy recorded eight saves to earn the victory for UW-L while Sammie Lefaive finished with three saves for UW-Eau Claire.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, October 4 at UW-Stout at 2 p.m.
