Box Score Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team fell 63-45 at third-ranked UW-Whitewater Wednesday night in Kachel Gym. The Eagles drop to 14-9 overall and 8-6 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Warhawks improve to 20-3 overall and 11-3 in the conference.
UW-Whitewater, ranked third on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, never trailed in Wednesday's game, racing out to a 12-2 lead. UW-L cut the deficit to 12-5 on a
Calahan Skogman three-point field goal, but UW-Whitewater went on a 12-2 run to lead 24-7 with 6:17 left in the first half.
The Warhawks led 34-15 at halftime.
UW-L trailed 38-17 with 17:23 remaining in the game when it scored the game's next eight points to cut the lead to 38-25 with 14:42 left. The Eagles trailed 41-28 with 13:21 remaining, but could get no closer the rest of the game.
UW-L shot 28.1% from the field, including 14.3% (three-of-21) from three-point range, and 66.7% (10-of-15) at the free throw line.
Skogman led the Eagles with 11 points and three assists while
Jared Staege finished with nine points.
UW-Whitewater shot 45.8% from the field, including 40.0% (six-of-15) from three-point range, and 59.1% (13-of-22) at the line.
KJ Evans led the Warhawks with 21 points and 14 rebounds while Eric Bryson finished with 18 points.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, February 15 at UW-Superior at 5 p.m.
