Balanced Scoring Leads Men's Basketball to WIAC Victory

Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team earned its first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) win of the season with a 72-47 victory over UW-Stout Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall.  The Eagles improve to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the WIAC while the Blue Devils fall to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference. 

The Eagles took an 11-10 lead with 12:36 remaining in the first half on Jared Staege's free throw and would never trail again.  UW-L led 22-18 with 7:14 left when it went on a 22-5 run to end the first half.  The Eagles went seven-of-nine from the field in a stretch which saw their lead go from four to 19 points.  

UW-L led 44-23 at halftime after shooting 50.0% (eight-of-16) from three-point range. The 44 points in the first half set a season-high.

UW-Stout could get no closer than 19 points in the second half as UW-L earned its 15th win in the last 18 meetings between the two teams.

UW-L shot 44.6% from the field, including 41.7% (10-of-24) from three-point range, and 57.1% (four-of-seven) at the free throw line.  The Eagles finished with a season-high 19 assists on their 29 field goals.

Skylar Cameron and Trent Schmidt led a balanced scoring attack for the Eagles with 15 points each. A total of 10 players scored for UW-L. Cameron finished seven-of-10 from the field, including one-of-three from three-point range while Schmidt was six-of-eight from the field, including three-of-four from three-point range. 

Connor De Bruin finished with seven points while Johnny Coenen, Ryan Kruser and Staege each had six points. Staege had a game-high 10 rebounds. 

UW-Stout shot 34.8% from the field, including 22.2% (four-of-18) from three-point range, and 50.0% (11-of-22) at the line. 

Jarvis Ragland led the Blue Devils iwth 13 points while Hank Kujak had seven. Reggie Kujak led UW-Stout with eight rebounds. 

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, December 10 at UW-River Falls at 7 p.m.
