UW-La Crosse 154, UW-Eau Claire 88La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming and diving team earned a 154-88 dual victory over UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon at the Richard L. Pein Natatorium in the Eagles' first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual of the season.
UW-L's
Ryan Jessen and
Justin Bublitz each won a pair of events Saturday. Jessen took the 100 (48.80) and 200 (1:49.89) freestyle while Bublitz swept the one (327.40 points) and three (290.50 points) meter diving competition.
The Eagles'
Bryan Frosch,
Caleb Cole,
Daniel Streater, and
Kade McGilvray each won an event. Cole captured the 50 freestyle (22.32), Frosch the 1,000 freestyle (10:17.03), McGilvray the 100 backstroke (54.55) and Streater the 200 individual medley (2:03.10).
UW-L also swept the relays Saturday as Stephan Hanko,
Ben Weinhaus, Streater, and
Erich Schnell won the 200 medley relay (1:38.83) while Cole, McGilvray, Jessen, and
Nicholas Brehmer captured the 400 freestyle relay (3:14.07).
Other top individual finishes for the Eagles included Streater second (28.92) and
Spencer Ritt third (54.51) in the 100 butterfly. Frosch was second (5:03.68) and Cole third (5:09.39) in the 500 freestyle while
Quinton Maydaniuk was fourth (1:04) in the 100 breaststroke.
Brehmer placed second (1:49.21),
Jackson Uselman third (1:51.85) and
Garrett Runing fourth (1:53.23) in the 200 freestyle. Schnell was third (22.46) in the 50 freestyle.
Hanko finished second (2:04.12) and
Erik Wickstrom third (2:04.85) in the 200 individual medley. The 100 freestyle saw Brehmer finishing second (49.31) and Schnell third (50.08). Hanko also recorded a second-place finish (54.82) in the 100 backstroke. Maydaniuk's fourth-place (1:05.55) was the highest for the Eagles in the 100 breaststroke.
Tanner Folvag finished second in the one-meter (231.40 points) and three-meter (253.85 points) diving events.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, November 22 at Luther College (Iowa) starting at 1 p.m.
