La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's tennis team fell 8-1 to UW-Whitewater Saturday afternoon at Veterans Courts.  The Eagles, playing their home opener, drop to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Warhawks improve to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

UW-Whitewater took two of the three doubles matches with Alexandra Bayliss/Jackie Vitale defeating Olivia Hartwick/Abby Tresedder at No. 1 (8-2) and Erika Williams/Amy Upthagrove defeating Rachael Wabers/Samantha Fleming at No. 3 (8-1). 

UW-L's Kimmy Mrozek/Bryanne Blanton defeated UW-Whitewaters' Megan Humphreys/Jessica Vitale at No. 2 doubles (8-3). 

In singles play, Bayliss defeated Hartwick at No. 1 (6-1, 6-0); Jackie Vitale beat Tresedder at No. 2 (7-5, 6-1) and Humphreys defeated Mrozek at No. 3 (6-3, 6-2). 

At No. 4 singles, UW-Whitewater's Williams beat Blanton (2-6, 6-1, 10-4) while Hillary Franzen defeated Kendra Woyahn at No. 5 (7-6, 6-4) and Abby Day defeated Jennifer Graham at No. 6 (6-4, 6-4). 

UW-L returns to action Friday, September 20 at the ITA Midwest Regional in St. Peter, Minnesota.
