La Crosse, Wis. - The first day of action at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championships is completed at Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex with Ramapo leading the women's championships and UW-La Crosse leading the men's race. Four events were completed on each side Thursday, including the 10,000-meter run, pole vault, discus and long jump.

Ramapo leads after day one with 27.0 team points, scoring 15 points in the pole vault as senior Michelle Favre captured the title (13-5 1/4) and freshman Emily Shipley placing fourth (12-3 1/2). Junior Anna Etherington of Washington University was second (13-3 1/2) and junior Jenna Adams of Williams third (12-9 1/2).
Ramapo received 12 points Thursday after a pair of third-place finishes. Senior Anita Rogers was third (19-7) in the long jump while junior Taylor Furman was third (148-5) in the discus.
UW-Whitewater is in second-place with 16.0 points while Washington University is third with 11.0. Hamline, Calvin and Illinois College are tied for fourth with 10.0.
Senior Melissa Norville of Illinois College won the long jump Thursday, setting an NCAA Division III Championship and Roger Harring Stadium record (20-5). UW-Whitewater sophomore Lexie Sondgeroth placed second (20-0 1/4) in the long jump.
Hamline senior Becky Culp claimed the discus record (154-7) with Tufts senior Kelly Allen finishing second (153-6).
Junior Nicole Michmerhuiz of Calvin took the 10,000-meters (35:45.08) Thursday night with senior Alyssa Duncan of UW-Whitewater second (35:51.23) and sophomore Elaine McVay of MIT third (35:53.33).
After the first four events of the heptathlon, Emory senior Theresa Ford leads with 3,040 points. Sophomore Taylor Hudson of Cortland State is second with 2,976 while junior Jocelyn Redlinski of North Central is third with 2,921. UW-Stout sophomore Meagan Ward is fourth (2,911) and UW-La Crosse senior Jena Weigel fifth (2,895).
In preliminary track action Thursday, Birmingham-Southern junior Tiarra Goode had the top-qualifying time (23.96) in the 200-meter dash. Junior Jazmin Dunham of Buffalo State (24.02) and sophomore Jaime Ludwigson of UW-L (24.36) also won heats.
Senior Annie Monagle of Johns Hopkins (4:31.09) and junior Christy Cazzola of UW-Oshkosh (4:35.08) took the two heats of the 1,500-meter run while senior Keri Lambert of Amherst (10:37.13) and senior Alyssa Smith of Geneseo State (10:38.47) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase preliminary heats.
Montclair State junior Heather Gearity (1:00.30), Wartburg junior Tashina McAllister (1:00.45) and junior Cheyenne Mangold of Washington & Jefferson (1:01.23) won the 400-meter hurdles prelims.
UW-La Crosse took the top qualifying times in the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays Thursday. Ludwigson, freshman Meg Heafy, sophomore Claire Elliott and sophomore Maya Vazquez set a stadium record (45.97) in the 4x100. Junior Jenna Halvorson, senior Rebecca Scheuermann, sophomore Shannon Klein and Elliott had the top 4x400-meter relay time (3:44.34).
Rowan won the other heat of the 4x100 (47.13) with freshman Shailah Williams, junior Jamie Thompson, sophomore Shantel Beckford and sophomore Brianna Crofton.
Illinois Wesleyan captured the other 4x400-meter relay heat (3:46.11) with senior Jenna Loynachan, senior Lauren Rock, sophomore Allie Boudreau and senior Tara Clemens.
Men's Recap
UW-La Crosse leads the men's standing after day one with 26.0 points. North Central is second with 18.0 followed by UW-Whitewater with 13.0) and UW-Oshkosh with 11.0).
UW-L's Isaac Vazquez won his second straight long jump title (25-4 3/4) Thursday night while the Eagles also scored points in the discus, pole vault and long jump. Sopomore Grant Havard placed third in the discus (175-3) while junior Rob Rohe finished fourth (16-2 3/4) and sophomore Jeffery Hill seventh (15-7) in the pole vault. Senior Troy Brooks was sixth (24-2 1/4) in the long jump.
Whitworth senior Carter Comito won his third straight discus title (198-1), setting a championship and facility record. Defiance senior Tom Postema was second (178-6) and Havard third (175-3).
John Carroll senior Mike Minjock was second (24-11 3/4) in the long jump and UW-Whitewater sophomore Justin Bowers third (24-4 1/4).
Senior Josh Winder of North Central took the pole vault championship (16-4 3/4) with senior Zach Ferrara of Brockport State second (16-4 3/4) and senior Josh Owens of Gustavus Adolphus third (16-2 3/4).
UW-Eau Claire senior Aaron Easker of UW-Eau Claire captured the national title in the 10,000-meter run (29:48.25) Thurday holding off North Central junior John Crain (29:49.45) and Calvin senior Dan Kerr (29:58.90).
Sophomore Eric Larson of Central College leads the decathlon after five events with 3,744 points. Sophomore Brandon Zarnoth of UW-Eau Claire is second with 3,707 points while junior Zach Anderson of UW-Stout is third with 3,559. Senior John Cord of Simpson is fourth (3,540) and sophomore Matt Hunter of Ohio Wesleyan fifth (3,519).
In preliminary track action, Oneonta senior Sean Bernstein had the top qualifying time in the 200-meter dash (20.87) with UW-Eau Claire sophomore Thurgood Dennis (21.03) and Christopher Newport sophomore Daulton Teaford (21.26) also capturing heats.
Senior Jordan Schilit of Haverford (3:50.75) and junior Dan Sullivan of UW-Stevens Point (3:52.50) took the 1,500-meter heats while senior Jack Davies of Middlebury (9:03.49) and junior Michael LeDuc of Connecticut College (9:05.10) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase preliminaries.
Rowan senior Demetrius Rooks (51.64), Mount Union sophomore Tyler Mettile (52.09) and Augustana sophomore David Voland (52.25) won the 400-meter hurdles trials.
In the 4x100-meter relay, junior Kevin Curbelo, senior Kimble Tillman, freshman Andres Vega and freshman German Fabela of Whittier had the top qualifying time (40.71). UW-La Crosse senior David Sikorski, sophomore Alex Koenen, sophomore Max Jessesski and senior Troy Brooks took the other heat (41.21).
UW-Eau Claire junior Jake Dennis-Oehling, senior Marty Richardson, Dennis and sophomore Cody Prince had the top 4x400-meter relay time (3:10.13) while Augustana senior Greg Patton, sophomore Antonio Owens, sophomore David Voland and senior Alex Rindone captured the other trial (3:10.76).
