Second Half Shooting Leads to Men's Basketball Win

Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team earned a 75-59 win over UW-Eau Claire Saturday night in Mitchell Hall.  The Eagles improve to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blugolds fall to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference. 

UW-L is 2-0 to start the conference season for the first time since 2006-07 when the Eagles won their first their three league games.  UW-L went on to finish 12-4 in the WIAC and 19-8 overall.

UW-L led 16-13 with 9:46 left in the first half when it went on a 10-2 run to lead 26-15 with 7:17 remaining.  The Eagles hit four of five shots from the field in the run.  UW-Eau Claire came back to cut the deficit to 34-31 at halftime. 

The game was tied 37-37 with 17:19 remaining after a Kurtis Moody layup for UW-Eau Claire.  Luke Tweed hit a three-pointer to give UW-L a 40-37 advantage before Moody scored on a layup with 15:20 remaining to make it a one-point game.  The Eagles then used a 14-3 run to take a 54-42 advantage with 10:50 left.  Braden Tice scored eight points and Trent Schmidt six in the run for UW-L. 

UW-Eau Claire could get no closer than 10 points the rest of the game. 

UW-L shot 47.2% from the field, including 58.3% (14-of-24) in the second half.  The Eagles shot 66.7% (10-of-15) from three-point range overall, including four-of-six (66.7%) in the second half.  UW-L shot 71.4% (15-of-21) at the free throw line overall. 

Lucas Collom led UW-L with 17 points, nine rebounds an d four assists while Schmidt finished with 14 points and Tice had 13.   Schmidt was two-of-three from the field, including one-of-two from three-point range, and nine-of-10 at the line.  Tice finished five-of-seven from the field, including three-of-three from three-point range. 

UW-Eau Claire shot 39.7% from the field, including 16.7% (three-of-18) from three-point range.  The Blugolds shot 47.6% (10-of-21) at the line.

Jacob Kohner led UW-Eau Claire with 12 points while Lewis Mau finished with 11 points and six rebounds.  Moody and Adam Hjelter each had nine points with Moody recording a team-high nine rebounds. 

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, December 11 at UW-Oshkosh at 7 p.m.
