UW-La Crosse Falls to Nationally-Ranked Augustana College

Box Score Wisconsin Dells, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team fell 71-58 to 13th-ranked Augustana College (Ill.) Saturday night at the JustAgame Fieldhouse.  The Eagles drop to 7-3 on the season while the Vikings improve to 9-1.  Augustana is ranked 13th on the D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll. It was the first meeting between the teams since the 2008-09 season.

Augustana never trailed in Saturday's win, scoring the first eight points of the contest.  UW-L cut the deficit to 10-7 with 13:54 remaining in the first half, but the Vikings went on a 7-0 run to lead 17-7.  The Eagles cut it to 17-10 on a Clint Rihn three-pointer, but the Vikings scored the next eight points to lead 25-10 with 6:58 left.

UW-L went on a 10-4 run to cut the lead to 29-20 with 2:44 left after a Braden Tice three-point field goal before Augustana finished the half on a 6-1 run to lead 35-21.

UW-L trailed 37-21 after an opening layup from Augustana to start the second half, but the Eagles used a 14-5 run to cut the lead to 42-35 with 14:08 left.  UW-L made six of its first eight shots from the field to start the second half.

The Eagles later trailed 48-39 with 9:23 remaining when the Vikings went on a 8-2 run to lead 56-41 with 6:19 left.  UW-L could get no closer than 10 points the rest of the game.

UW-L shot 40.0% from the field, including 26.1% (six-of-23) from three-point range, and 80.0% (12-of-15) at the free throw line.

Calahan Skogman led the Eagles with 13 points and eight rebounds while Tice, Luke Tweed and Jared Staege each finished with nine points.  Lucas Collom finished with eight points.

Augustana shot 51.0% from the field, including 37.5% (three-of-eight) from three-point range, and 69.2% (18-of-26) at the line.

Hunter Hill and Ben Ryan led the Vikings with 13 points each while Tayvian Johnson finished with 12.  Ryan also had a team-high eight rebounds with Johnson finishing with seven.

UW-L returns to action Sunday, December 29 versus The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) starting at 3:30 p.m. at JustAgame Fieldhouse.
