Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team earned a 3-2 victory over UW-River Falls Saturday night at Veterans Field. The Eagles improve to 6-10-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Falcons fall to 6-11-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the conference. It was the regular-season finale for both teams.
With the victory, UW-L clinches the sixth-seed for the WIAC Tournament. The Eagles will travel to third-seeded UW-Stout Tuesday, November 5 at 6 p.m. in the first round of the league tournament.
UW-L took a 1-0 lead in Saturday's match as
Jamie Ochsenwald scored at 16:29 assisted by
Laura Sauer and
Kelly Denk. It was Ochsenwald's fourth goal of the year.
UW-River Falls forced a 1-1 tie at halftime as Nina Abrahamson scored her fifth goal of the season at 40:00. Anna Kouba earned the assist.
The Eagles scored two quick goals in the second half. Denk scored her fifth goal of the year at 74:39 assisted by Ochsenwald to give UW-L a 2-1 advantage.
Sarah Jacobs then scored her second goal of the season unassisted at 76:21 for a 3-1 lead.
The Falcons cut the deficit to 3-2 at 84:14 with Alyssa Manor notching her fourth goal of the season. Kouba earned her second assist of the night, but UW-River Falls could not get the tying goal before regulation ended.
UW-L finished with 11 shots, including 10 on goal. UW-River Falls totaled nine shots with four on goal.
Ashley Tracy recorded two saves for the Eagles while Rebecca Kramer registered seven for the Falcons.
UW-L returns to action Tuesday, November 5 at UW-Stout in the WIAC Tournament First Round. The match is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. The Blue Devils earned a 2-1 overtime victory over the Eagles September 28 in La Crosse.
