Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team earned a 89-61 victory over Lakeland College (Wis.) Monday night in Mitchell Hall in the Eagles' home opener. UW-L improves to 3-0 on the season while Lakeland falls to 1-1.
In the first meeting between the teams since 2007-08, Lakeland scored the first seven points of the game as Joey Burris hit a three-pointer, Travis Kell a layup and Brandon Hagenow two free throws. UW-L then scored the next eight points to lead 8-7 with 15:23 remaining in the first half.
Lucas Collom had a layup and three-point field goal to make it 7-5 and
Luke Tweed gave UW-L the lead with a three-point field goal.
Kurt Jansen gave the Muskies a 9-7 lead with a jumper, but Tweed hit back-to-back three-point field goals for the Eagles to give UW-L a 14-9 lead with 14:22 left. UW-L would never trail the rest of the game. The Eagles led 27-21 when they went on a 16-4 run to lead 43-25 with :41 remaining. UW-L led 43-27 at halftime.
UW-L led 45-34 with 18:16 left in the game when it used a 14-2 run to lead 59-36 with 13:53 remaining. Lakeland could get no closer than 14 points the rest of the game.
UW-L shot 51.6% from the field, including 63.0% (17-of-27) in the second half. The Eagles shot 54.5% (12-of-22) from three-point range and 68.8% (11-of-16) at the free throw line for the game.
Calahan Skogman led five UW-L players in double figures with 17 points, finishing seven-of-nine from the field, including one-of-two from three-point range. He was two-of-four at the line and tied for the team lead with five rebounds with
Braden Tice. Tweed finished with 16 points Monday, going four-of-six from three-point range.
Cale Zuiker had 12 points while
Lucas Collom finished with 11 and
Johnny Coenen with 10.
Lakeland shot 44.2% from the field, including 33.3% (seven-of-21) from three-point range. The Muskies shot 72.7% (eight-of-11) at the line.
James Oshkesheguoam led Lakeland with 12 points while Jansen finished with 10.
UW-L returns to action Tuesday, November 19 at Luther College (Iowa) at 7 p.m.
