Rally Falls Short in Non-Conference Loss to Carthage

Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team fell 3-2 to Carthage College (Wis.) Wednesday night at Veterans Field.  The Eagles drop to 5-10-1 on the season while the Lady Reds improve to 12-4.  This was the second-ever meeting between the two teams. Carthage earned a 2-0 victory last season in Kenosha. 

The Lady Reds took a 1-0 lead at 18:21 as Corinne Brennan scored her 14th goal of the season. It was assisted by Sam Anderson.  The game remained 1-0 at halftime. 

Carthage led 2-0 at 45:32 with Brennan notching her second goal of the match and 15th of the year. It was an unassisted goal.  The Lady Reds took a 3-0 advantage at 50:38 as Taylor Capek scored her first goal of the season assisted by Rachel Post. 

UW-L rallied back to cut the deficit to 3-1 at 58:51 with Jamie Ochsenwald scoring an unassisted goal.  It was her third goal of the year. 

The Eagles' Kelly Denk made it 3-2 at 83:14 scoring on a penalty kick.  It was her fourth goal of the year.  Ochsenwald hit the post :32 later and Carthage's Abby Alm made a pair of saves over the next two minutes.

UW-L finished with 21 shots, including 12 on goal. Carthage recorded 10 shots with four on goal.

The Eagles' Ashley Tracy recorded one save while the Lady Reds' Alm had 10. 

UW-L returns to action Saturday, November 2 hosting UW-River Falls at 5 p.m. in the Eagles' regular-season finale.
