La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team improved to 6-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) with a 6-0 victory over UW-Superior Saturday afternoon at Veterans Stadium. The Yellowjackets fall to 2-9 overall and 0-3 in the conference. It is UW-L's fourth shutout win of the season.
UW-L outshot UW-Superior, 47-1, including 24-0 on shots on goal.
The Eagles scored three goals in each half.
Sarah Joost gave UW-L a 1-0 lead at 23:44 with an assist from
Taylor Baker. It was her second goal of the season.
Chelsea Hall tallied her third goal of the year at 30:54 off a
Jamie Wiepz corner kick.
Laura Sauer then notched her first goal of the year at 33:11 off another Wiepz corner kick and 3-0 Eagles lead.
Sauer scored her second goal of the match at 57:26 with
Saskia Taylor recording the assist. Taylor then made it 6-0 with her first two goals of the season for the final scoring of the match. She scored at 60:58 with an assist from
Courtney Weber and at 67:35 with an assist from
Cassie Blazer.
Samantha Kuehl earned the win in goal for UW-L to improve to 2-0 on the season while Emily Finnerud dropped to 0-5 with the loss for UW-Superior. Finnerud made 18 saves in the match.
UW-L returns to action Wednesday, October 6 at Grinnell College (Iowa) starting at 4:30 p.m.
