Garrett Carlson is in his seventh season as an assistant coach for UW-La Crosse in 2024-25. He earned his bachelor's degree from UWL in broadfield social studies education in 2016.
A native of West Salem, Wisconsin, Carlson finished 13th in the decathlon at the 2016 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships. He placed fifth in the decathlon at the 2016 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships.
He served as President of UWL's Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society in 2015-16. Carlson was Salutatorian at West Salem High School in 2011, graduating with a 4.00 grade point average. He was the Panthers' girls and boys pole vault coach in 2013-14.
