Barry Shockmel completed his 49th season as the UW-La Crosse Diving Coach in 2018-19. He was responsible for administering the workouts and training practices for the diving crew.
Schockmel is credited with guiding the development of UWL's divers. Drew Peterson rewrote the men's diving records while Jane Marien was a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) champion in 1989 under Schockmel's tutelage.
Amanda Medendorp earned seven National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) III All-America honors under Schockmel. She placed eighth in the one-meter competition in 2008 after finishing fourth in the one-meter and ninth in the three-meter in 2007.
The Eagles' Rachel LaValley earned four All-America awards under Schockmel. She placed 11th in the one-meter and 12th in the three-meter in 2010 after finishing 13th in the three-meter and 15th in the one-meter at the 2009 championships.
Kayley Alioto also earned four career All-America awards, finishing fourth in the three-meter competition and 14th in the one-meter in 2018. Her fourth-place finish is the highest in UWL history in the three-meter competition at the NCAA Division III Championships. Alioto finished sixth in the 2017 three-meter competition and 10th in the three-meter in 2016 at the NCAA III Championships.
UWL has earned the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Diver of the Meet in 11 of the 17 years it has been awarded. Medendorp (2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08) and LaValley (2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11) have each earned the honor three times while Alioto earned it twice (2016-17, 2017-18). Elizabeth Konkel earned the award in 2018-19.
UWL's Justin Bublitz earned six career NCAA Division III All-America diving honors under Schockmel, the most for a UWL diver in school history. Bublitz finished seventh in the one-meter competition and 16th in the three-meter in 2015. The seventh-place finish in the one-meter competition is the highest finish for a UWL diver in the event since Kevin Lilly placed school-best fifth in 1999. Lilly recorded a school-best third-place finish in the three-meter in 1999.
Bublitz was named the WIAC Men's Diver of the Meet three times (2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15).
