Albie McKinney is in his seventh season as an assistant coach at UW-La Crosse in 2025-26. A native of Luck, Wisconsin, McKinney was an assistant coach for the HolmenĀ Viking Wrestling Club (HVWC) from 2010-12 and 2015-17. He has also worked an assistant coach at IronWorks Training Center since 2011.
UWL won its ninth straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship in 2024-25 as Michael Douglas (285-pounds), Tanner Gerber (165), Tyler Goebel (157), Marcus Orlandoni (184) and Talan Schutte (141) won league titles. Orlandoni won the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championship in 2025. Gerber (third), Goebel (sixth) and Ben Kawczynski (197) also earned All-America honors. UWL placed fifth at the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships and captured its first NCAA Division III Regional title in school history.Ā
The Eagles won their eighthĀ straight WIAC Championship in 2023-24 with five wrestlers earning individual crowns. UWL finished third at the 2024 NCAA Division III Championships held at the La Crosse Center as five wrestlers were All-Americas.Ā Nolan Hertel (157) won his second straight individual national title while Douglas (285),Ā Goebel (149) and Noah Leisgang (165) all placed second. Kawczynski (197) finished eighth to earn All-America recognition. UWL was second at the 2024 NCAA III Upper Midwest Regional.Ā
The Eagles won the 2022-23 WIAC title as three wrestlers earned individual titles. UWL placed second at the 2023 NCAA Division III Regional and fifth at the NCAA III Championships.Ā Seven wrestlers qualified for the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships, with four All-Americas.Ā Hertel captured the national title at 157-pounds while Leisgang was third at 165-pounds, Seth Brossard third at 174-pounds and Douglas eighth at 285-pounds.
A four-year letter winner at UWL, McKinney finished 53-24 in his career for the Eagles. He won three (2009-11) WIACĀ titles at 125-pounds and was named the 2009-10 WIAC John Peterson Wrestler of the Meet at the league championships.Ā
McKinney was a three-time qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championships, earning All-America honors with a second-place finish in 2011. He also competed at the 2009 and 2010 national meet.Ā
He was a member of four WIAC Championship teams and four teams to place in the top-three at the NCAA III Championships. UWL placed second in 2008 and 2010 and third in 2009 and 2011.Ā
McKinney earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from UWL in 2017 while minoring in sociology.Ā
