David Taebel starts his ninth season as UW-La Crosse head women's golf coach in 2026-27.

Honors and Awards
  • 2022-23 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year

2025-2026
  • Led the Eagles to six top three tournament finishes including winning the Gustavus Adolphus College Spring Invitational.
  • Eagles finished fourth at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships.
  • Haley Thoeny was named WIAC First Team All-Conference.
  • Allie McBryde and Haley Thoeny named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Team.
2024-2025
  • Led the Eagles to six top three tournament finishes including winning the UW-Eau Claire Invitational and the UWL Spring Invitational.
  • Eagles finished third at the WIAC Championships with Jenna Wiebke finishing third overall while Haley Thoeny was seventh.
  • Jenna Wiebke was named WIAC First Team All-Conference while Haley Thoeny was named to the Second Team.
  • Jenna Wiebke was named to the CSC Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Team.
2023-2024
  • The Eagles finished in the top three eight of the nine tournaments they played in including finishing second at the WIAC Championships.
  • Andrea Schleeper (fourth), Allison Balduzzi (eighth) and Grace Ellison (tenth) all finished in the top-10 at the WIAC Championships.
  • Andrea Schleeper was named WIAC First Team All-Conference while Haley Thoeny, Allison Balduzzi and Grace Ellison were all named to the second team.
  • Haley Thoeny was named the WIAC Newcomer of the Year.
  • Grace Ellison was named to the CSC Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Team.
2022-2023
  • Taebel was named WIAC Coach of the Year after leading the Eagles to a first place tie at the WIAC Championships. UWL would lose a one-hole playoff to UW-Whitewater.
  • Eagles had three golfers finish in the top seven including Molly Larsen (fourth), Maija Tanberg (fifth) and Andrea Schleeper (seventh).
  • Molly Larsen was named WIAC First Team All-Conference while Andrea Schleeper and Maija Tanberg were named to the second team.
  • The Eagles finished in the top-2 at every tournament except one, the D3 Classic, where they finished fourth out of 17 teams.
  • Andrea Schleeper was named to the CSC Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Team.
2021-2022
  • For the second straight season, Taebel led the Eagles to a second-place finish at the WIAC Championships.
  • Molly Larsen was named WIAC First Team All-Conference while Andrea Schleeper and Maija Tanberg were named to the second team.
 
Highlights 20018-2021
  • Named the Eagles' head coach on March 14, 2018, Taebel was the first coach for the Eagles since the sport was brought back as a varsity sport. Women's golf was a varsity sport at UWL from 1970-71 through 1982-83.  It was suspended at the conclusion of the 1982-83 season and became a club sport.
  • Led the Eagles to seventh place at the 2018 WIAC Championships, sixth place finish at 2019 Championships and a second place finish in 2020.
  • Has coached 15 WIAC All-Conference golfers.
 
Prior Coaching Experience
  • Head girls golf coach at Holmen High School (Wis.) 2017.
  • Prior to coaching at Holmen, Taebel was the head girls’ (2002-2017) and boys’ golf coach (2000-2017) at Stoughton High School (Wis.).
  • Served as an assistant boys’ golf coach at Stoughton High School from 1997-2000.
  • Golf instructor at Coachman’s Golf Resort in Edgerton, Wis. from 1998-2017.
 
Personal
  • Taebel earned his bachelor's (1993) and master's (2008) degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. 
  • Taebel is a retired science teacher having taught for the Stoughton and Holmen School Districts.
