Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team is in second-place after the first day of competition at the 2025 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Region VII Regional Friday at Augsburg University's (Minn.) Melby Hall.
The Eagles have 102.0 team points while Augsburg University (Minn.) leads with 108.5, UW-Eau Claire is third with 84.5. A total of 16 teams are competing.
UWL advanced all 10 of its wrestlers to Saturday's second day, including nine to the semifinals. The Eagles'

Michael Douglas (285) all advanced in the semifinals. Wolbert, Magolski, Lorenz, Cherba, Gerber, Simes, Orlandoni, Kawczynski, and Douglas each went 2-0.
Wolbert won both of his matches by fall on Friday. He won by fall (1:13) over Andrew Cain of Lakeland University (Wis.) in his opening match on Friday and by fall (4:09) over Thomas Holmquist of St. John's University (Minn.) in the quarterfinals. Wolbert faces Wyatt Kaczrowski of Augsburg (Minn.) in the semifinals.
Magolski won by fall (2:49) over Sam Deyro of Augustana College (Ill.) in his opening match and defeated Connor Krueger of St. John's (Minn.) by decision (7-3) in the quarterfinals. Magolski and Brody Toledo of UW-Oshkosh will face-off in the semifinals.
Lorenz defeated Lucas Schanen of Lakeland (Wis.) by fall (1:38) in his first match. He later won by decision (6-0) over Finn Bloomquist of UW-Eau Claire in the quarterfinals. He will face Cole Becker of Augsburg (Minn.) in the semifinals.
Cherba won his first match by technical fall (16-1) over Trent DuMont of UW-Platteville and his quarterfinal matchup by decision (10-4) over Ashton Massaro of Aurora University (Ill.). Cherba and Matt Randolph of Augsburg (Minn.) will square-off in the semifinals.
Goebel defeated Michael Smith of MSOE (Wis.) by technical fall (15-0) and fell to Michael Macias of Augustana (Ill.) by sudden victory (4-1) in the quarterfinals. In the consolation bracket, Goebel won by technical fall over Austin Abitua of Aurora (Ill.) 17-2. Goebel will face Alexander McPhee of Concordia College Moorhead (Minn.) in the consolation bracket on Saturday.
Gerber won both his matches by technical fall. He won (16-0) over Ryan Bergman of UW-Oshkosh and defeated Jack Patting of Augustana (Ill.) (17-2) in the quarterfinals. Gerber will face conference foe Preston Carlisle of UW-Eau Claire in the semifinals.
Simes received a first-round bye and then defeated Fulton Stroud of Lakeland (Wis.) by fall (4:15). He will face Seth Goetzinger of Augsburg (Minn.) in the semifinals.
Orlandoni also won both his matches by technical fall. He defeated Zach Hunter of St. Johns (Minn.) (22-5) in his opening match and Clay DeBaillie of Augustana (Ill.) (24-9) in the quarterfinal matchup. He will compete with Easton Hull of UW-Stevens Point in the semifinals.
Kawczynski also won both his matches by technical fall. He defeated Romeo Hernandez of Pacific University (Ore.) by a score of 17-0. He later defeated D.J. Myles of St. John's (Minn.) 16-1 in the quarterfinals. Kawczynski will face Jacob Badger of Augustana (Ill.) in the semifinals.
Douglas also went 2-0 Friday. He defeated Colin Duren of MSOE (Wis.) by fall (1:38) and Garrett Olbrich of Pacific (Ore.) by decision (7-2). He will square off against Tyler Raway of Augsburg (Minn.) in a semifinal matchup.
Thirty wrestlers, the top-three finishers in each of the 10 weight classes, advance to the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships scheduled for March 14-15 in Providence, Rhode Island.
