Wrestling Competes At Cornell College

Mount Vernon, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team competed at the Cornell College (Iowa) Cliff Keen-Mike Duroe Invitational Saturday.

Gold Brackets

125 - Inocencio Garcia drew a first round bye and finished 0-2 on the day.
133 - Wyatt Magolski won his first and third match by fall along with his second match by technical fall. He then won his semifinal match to face Eli Sneed of Cornell College (Iowa) to advance in the finals where he lost 7-2. After a first round bye for Matt Haldiman, he won by a major decision (16-8) before advancing to the semifinals where he lost 4-2 to Sneed. Haldiman end up finishing fifth with a 7-1 win over Noah Moltzan. Moltzan finished the day 2-2 overall. Cael Weinzweig lost his first round match 4-0 before winning three straight matches to advance to the consolation championship where she lost by Fall to Brady Grennan of UW-Platteville.
141 - Talan Schutte won his first two matches by fall and his quarterfinal match by technical fall. Schutte then lost to Austin Gabbert (Augsburg (Minn.)) in a sudden victory 4-1. In the consolation bracket then, Schutte advanced to the third place match where he won by Fall over Cade Willis of Augsburg (Minn.). Jack Krier won his first match by sudden victory (4-1) before losing by major decision (8-0). Krier finished the day 3-2. Marcus McIntyre won his first match 10-8 before winning due to injury and then falling to the consolation bracket due to a 15-11 loss. After losing his first match, Kaiden Schrandt went 5-0 in the consolation bracket to win the consolation championship by Fall over Omar Samayoa of Cornell College (Iowa).
165 - Brett Skaug won his first two matches by technical fall and then recorded a major decision 14-4 before falling to Nathan Fuller (Wartburg (Iowa)) 9-5. Skaug then advanced to the fifth place match where he won by major decision over Peter Hollingshead (Luther (Iowa)) 19-6.
174 - Eddie Simes and Leo Draveling each won their first four matches to advance to the finals. Simes would defeat Draveling 4-1 in sudden victory for the championship. Jack Gillis won his first two matches by Fall before losing 2-0 in the quarterfinals. Gillis then advanced to the third place match where he lost 5-2 to Nick Alexander (Augsburg (Minn.)). Kash Macumber finished the day 2-2. Camren Dennee won his first two matches before losing and falling to the consolation bracket where he advanced to the fifth place match. Dennee defeated Dahson DeJong (Cornell (Iowa)) 14-3 to finish fifth.
184 - Sedee AlObaidi advanced to the quarterfinals with a 7-6 decision and an 18-0 technical fall. He then lost to Matthew Doyle (Wartburg (Iowa)) 10-3. In the consolation bracket, AlObaidi advanced to the third place match where he won by technical fall (15-0) over Wyatt Weter (Luther College (Iowa)).
197 - Jackson Ormond earned a first round bye before losing 14-5. He would finish the day 1-2 after going 1-1 in the consolation bracket. Gabe Carter advanced to the semifinal match with an opening round bye, a 14-7 decision and a major decision 13-1. Carter then lost to Ethan Winkelman (Augsburg (Minn.)) 11-4. Like Carter, Kasey Gish advanced (fall and back-to-back major decisions) to the semifinals before losing to Treyten Steffen (Cornell (Iowa)) by fall (2:16). Carter and Gish then advanced to the third place match where Kish on by medical forfeit.
