Storm Lake, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team competed at the Buena Vista University (Iowa) Open Saturday. No team scores were recorded.
The Eagles had 27 wrestlers place, including a pair of individual champions.
Tyler Goebel captured the 165-pound division with a 4-0 record. After a first round bye, Goebel won by technical fall (17-2) over Josh Berlin of Ellsworth Community College (Iowa) in the second round. He defeated Kaden King of Iowa Central Community College by decision (7-2) in the quarterfinals and by major decision (11-1) over Luke Swanson of the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.). Goebel took the title with a decision (4-0) over Nick Mueller of Upper Iowa University.

Eddie Simes won the 174-pound title, also going 4-0. He received a first round bye and won by technical fall (21-6) over Jakobe Lahr of Iowa Central Community College in the second round. Simes advanced in the quarterfinals with a major decision (11-2) over teammate
Jack Gillis. Simes won by decision (9-7) over teammate
Leo Draveling in the semifinals and captured the crown with a win by fall (:41) over teammate

Michael Douglas (285) all finished second on Saturday.
Schutte went 3-1 in the tournament with one win by fall. He dropped the title match by decision (7-3) to Carter Freeman of Northern Iowa University. Penchi finished 4-1, losing by fall (6:10) to Connor Thorpe of Northern Iowa in the championship match.
AlObaidi, Dormanen and Kawczynski all went 3-1. AlObaidi dropped the 174-pound title match to Simes by fall (:41) while Dormanen lost by decision (2-1) to CJ Walrath of Northern Iowa at 184-pounds and Kawczynski lost by fall (2:30) to Nathan Schon of Iowa State University for the championship at 197. Dormanen and Kawczynski each registered one win by fall.
Douglas finished 4-1 on the day at 285-pounds to place second, losing by fall (1:47) to Adam Ahrendsen of Northern Iowa in the title dual.
Matt Haldiman won the consolation title at 133-pounds with a 3-1 record, recording three wins by fall.
Draveling (174) placed third with a 3-1 record, recording two wins by fall.

Gabe Carter (197) each finished fourth. Giere, Holzer, McIntyre, Hansen and Carter were all 2-2 on the day while Dennee was 3-2. Giere and McIntyre each earned one win by fall with Dennee registering two.

Marcus Orlandoni (184) each finished fifth on Saturday. Wolbert, Cherba and Gillis were 4-1 while Magolski and Orlandoni both finished 3-1. Wolbert and Magolski each recorded one win by fall.
Ino Garcia (125),
Cael Weinzweig (133) and
Kash Macumber (174) were all sixth on Saturday with 2-2 records with Weinzweig finishing with one win by fall and Macumber both of his victories by fall.
The Eagles'
Tate Flege (165) was seventh with a 2-2 record while
Grant Madl (125) and
Noah Moltzan (133) both finished eighth. Madl was 1-0 and Moltzan 1-1.
UWL's
Brett Skaug finished 1-2 at 165-pounds.
